Encouraging Performance by ACRL

Ambuja Cement Rajasthan Limited, (ACRL) an associate of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited, has performed well during the financial year 30th June, 2003 despite a drop in realisation by over 5%. Cement prices in Rajasthan, Delhi and other markets were very low during the year

During the year ACRL has sold 16.28 lac tonnes of cement and clinker as against 14.22 lac tonnes in the previous year, an increase of 14%.

Turnover during the year is up 9% to Rs. 310.91 crores as against Rs. 284.67 crores in the previous year.

Operating profit is almost the same at Rs. 40.20 crores as against Rs. 40.77 crores as compared to the previous year. This was as a result of improved productivity and lower cost of production due to substantial savings on power and fuel cost which were down by about 14% as compared to the last year.

Interest cost has been reduced by 14% to Rs. 40.16 crores as against Rs. 46.83 crores.

After charging depreciation of Rs. 25.50 crores (Rs. 25.11 crores in the previous year) the loss for the year was lower by 18% at Rs. 25.46 crores as against Rs. 31.17 crores.

Cement demand and realisation are expected to be better on account of good monsoon in Rajasthan and North India, which will help the company to improve its performance in the current year.
